PSHE at Tiptoe

This subject is central to all we do at Tiptoe. We plan to visit it through every area of our curriculum as well as being a standalone subject. 

Our vision is that children will be able to take risks in their learning but know how to stay safe at home and in the community.

Intent

PSHE is challenging, motivating, practical and interactive. In our diverse society, children need to develop an understanding of themselves, others and their community and how we can work together in harmony. They also need to know how to maintain healthy lifestyles and relationships with others. PSHE plays an integral role in children exploring these things and helps to prepare them for the community that they live in now and in the future.

Implementation

PSHE helps to give pupils the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives, while acting as responsible citizens. We systematically cover the following areas : -

Impact

The children understand the importance of PSHE and British values and the effects it can have on life in and out of school, this is evident through pupil voice, monitoring and the behaviour of our children. The children at Tiptoe develop a strong sense of responsibility, independently running activities for younger children, as well as actively supporting charities. By teaching pupils to stay safe, healthy and building self esteem, resilience and empathy our effective PSHE programme tackles barriers to learning, raises aspirations and improves life chances. 

By the time they leave our school PSHE enables our learners to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. It helps them to understand how they are developing personally and socially and takles many of the moral social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. Our curriculum allows pupils to learn about rights an responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self worth by playing a positive role in contributingto school life and the wider community.
